Lexi Abreu, 11, won the 2026 Overall 4-Her award, the highest honor at the 2026 Maui 4-H Livestock show at Ag Fest in May. This was Abreu’s second year raising a beef project, which is about a 200-day project on average, according to event organizers. The youngest group of 4-Hers — Clover Buds is made up of 5- to 8-year-olds who exhibit chickens and rabbits.
The Juniors division is composed of 9- to 13-year-olds, and Seniors are 14 to 19 years old. Both groups raise beef projects, as well as hogs, lambs and goats. On average, the lambs, goats and hogs are about 90-day projects. The new beef projects will start in late November. With that in mind, Char Sakamoto said now is a great time of year to join 4-H and she encouraged anyone interested to contact UH Maui CTAHR at
808-244-3242.
