MCFB E-Newsletter ~ December 2020

    MCFB E-Newsletter ~ December 2020
Wishing you a Wonderful Holiday Season from Maui County Farm Bureau Board of Directors
On behalf of MCFB’s board of directors and myself, happy holidays! We wish all of you a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.

In this special season, some Japanese families make Kadomatsu. Kadomatsu is a green decoration made of pine, bamboo and plum (ume) trees symbolizing longevity, prosperity and sturdiness. From right after Christmas until January 7, Kadomatsu is believed to provide temporary housing for the toshigami sama (deity) in order to ensure a great harvest and blessings from the family’s ancestors on everyone in the Kadomatsu.

For many years my family made Kadomatsu. I believe traditions like Kadomatsu are healing and provide hope. I hope you will take some time to practice a family or cultural tradition this season, and welcome in joy for the new year!

    Merīkurisumasu, Soshite Happīnyūiyā,
Mele Kalikimaka me ka Hau‘oli Makahiki Hou,
and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    Warren K. Watanabe
    Executive Director

Agriculture in the Classroom Goes Virtual

In 2021, MCFB in-class lesson plan titled “Where Would We Be Without Seeds?” goes virtual. We will provide a link to the five-part lesson plan along with digital handouts and other tools to second grade teachers on Maui. We’re excited to see MCFB’s annual AIC program continue through Covid-19 pandemic and into 2021.

    Refreshed, Redesigned Website

MCFB is proud to unveil its new website! Our goals were simple – bring news to the forefront and make the site mobile friendly and easy to navigate. We did that and more.

The new  functional design invites people to spend more time reading about all the work MCFB’s board of directors, executive director, and supporters do on behalf of its members and agriculture on Maui. Visit www.mauicountyfarmbureau.org
